I've been experimenting with a different way of making quilts. And I find that I like the "serendipity" style lot. Or, to clarify, garbage quilting.
The scraps of fabric that people throw away become my material. Batiks work the best due to varying colors. However, basic cottons work well for areas too. I've made three so far and quilted them on my large rack. They could easily be free motion quilted on a standard machine.
The butterfly quilt placed 2nd in the Art / Pictorial category at our local quilt show and 2nd in the Evergreen State Fair and the Lake Quilt placed 3rd in a "bird sayings challenge" category in our local show and 2nd in the State Fair.
